5 Quick Honeymoon Planning Tips
- Consider the Season – Take into account the time of year you’ll be honeymooning and how it may affect your destination choice. Consider factors like weather (e.g. hurricane or monsoon season), peak tourist seasons, the European off-season (where many hotels and restaurants are closed!) and any special events (e.g. concerts) or festivals happening at your desired location.
- Book in Advance – Once you’ve decided on a destination, book your flights and accommodations early to secure the best rates and availability. Many travel experts suggest booking 6 to 10 months in advance, depending on the location.
- Get timing right! Many experts recommend checking into hotels on either a Sunday or Monday since the rates are often lower than on Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays.
- Seek balance – Remember to balance your itinerary with relaxation time. Honeymoons are meant for unwinding and enjoying each other’s company, so don’t over-schedule yourselves – especially if you will have to deal with jet lag for long-haul flights! A good idea is to alternate your days – one for sight-seeing and then one day for relaxation time.
- Consider Travel Insurance: Depending on your destination and circumstances, it may be wise to invest in travel insurance to protect against unforeseen events such as: cancellations, medical emergencies or lost luggage.
