Tiffany and Akeem (Preedy)
“Akeem and I were high school sweethearts. We met twelve years ago at El Dorado East Secondary School, when we were both students. We had a lot in common – as we both used to sing. I remember encouraging him to start writing songs and to think about being an artiste one day!
Five years into dating, we had a son together – Aiden. Akeem actually proposed to me on the day of my baby shower. After that, we were engaged for about 6 years. Many things delayed the wedding but mostly, it was my cancer diagnosis and some other health issues Akeem had.
Planning a wedding during Covid times was challenging. We actually re-scheduled twice, before the actual date we chose! The most difficult thing for us was cutting down the guest list by at least three-quarter of what we had originally – due to Covid gathering restrictions. That was hard, as we had to leave out some people who had truly supported us over the years.
A few weeks before the wedding, we also had to cancel our original Decorator and start the search for a new one. Thankfully, our Wedding Co-ordinator, Tisha Jack from TCJ Events, (whom I had met at TrinidadWeddings’ Bride University workshop) was there to help and quickly found us a replacement. Tisha was more than a Co-ordinator, she was there for us every step of the way and she has become a friend.
We had a beautiful, intimate, garden ceremony. Not one drop of rain fell, even though we were in the rainy season! Our Unity Candle ceremony was gifted to us by Tisha, our Wedding Co-ordinator. Our son Aiden was the ring bearer and Lyara Roberts (our friend, Patrice Robert’s daughter) was the flower girl. My mom and dad walked me up the aisle and I remember feeling so nervous! When I looked up, I saw Akeem tearing up too. Even though our guest list was smaller than we wanted, we truly felt the love of everyone who was there.
We feel as though we have lived our wedding vows even before we said them – “in sickness and health, for richer or poorer,” – we have been through so much together. We are living proof of those vows!“ – Tiffany
